Summer travel planning ramble…

Planning a trip is easy right? Not if you have Travel FOMO šŸ™‚
This weekend I spent a lot of time working on May/June travel.

When I plan a trip, I kinda obsess over “getting it right” – I know big surprise šŸ™‚ Anyway, I have to research, research, & research before making a choice. Now once we find a place we like, it is easy to just go back, so I guess in the end the research pays off. We have found some great places to stay – have I mentioned the absolutely AMAZING Rusty Fork Inn in Temecula? Or the Black Bear Inn in Arnold? Oh or the ForFriends Inn in Los Olivos? I’ll get around to a post about those places, but for now I am talking about the upcoming trips.
First up a quick overnight to San Francisco – Mark needs to go tot he Dutch consulate to renew his passport. Sara and I found a really great, tiny restaurant called Cesario’s and I wanted to take Mark, so hey look at that excuse. That one was easy.

Next – The kid is coming home for the summer!!! Can you believe she is almost done with her first year of college? More on that later, but that leads me to hours of trying to figure out Where to Stay this when we go down to pick her up.
Last year, I was focused on renewing our “status” at Marriott, so that was my guiding light (if you need to stay at a Marriott anywhere in CA, let me know, I have literally looked at every one of them!).
Then for our anniversary trip, I broke away and choose a couple B&Bs…
Oh and let’s not forget the Rusty Fork and the airbnb we stayed in Coronado….

SO, WHAT to choose? Hotel, House, or B&B? There are benefits and deficits of each – kitchen/no kitchen, own space/shared space, bar/living room, social/anti social, bed size….many more I could go into, but maybe that is yet another post I should write separately šŸ™‚

And WHERE to choose? It’s San Diego, just pick someplace….HA!
We figure if we are going we should make it a mini trip, so….
Beach? City? Resort? Neighborhood? One of the most important things for us, is to be able to walk out our door and find places to eat.
We really liked the Point Loma Marriot and the area last time, so that was my first thought. It worked, we liked it, it was convenient….but is it the BEST choice? I mean so many other opportunities, and I have I mentioned the of travel FOMO….Shouldn’t we explore other areas? Ocean Beach is really cool, Hillcrest? Little Italy?
We stayed in the Gaslamp Quarter for a couple nights, and it was definitely convenient…found some great restaurants, but it didn’t really feel like San Diego.
We thought about Little Italy, but the Marriott there just looks boring…maybe an airbnb?
Coronado…We have stayed there 3 times and really like it, but the Marriott there is quite pricey and the little house we stayed in last time was meh…
Hotel circle is convenient, but SO boring
North SD – we stayed in Encinitas and loved the area, but it’s a bit far from SDSU to be convenient.

I started at Marriott and was uninspired by the prices. I searched Airbnb and currently have about 500 tabs open (did you know that airbnb opens a new tab Every Time you click on a listing), because some look really cool and I want to be able to find them….then just for fun I threw in a search of San Diego B&Bs since we have had such good luck the last couple times…and you know I really do love having breakfast served to me…
And I came up with two final contenders: the 1906 Lodge on Coronado http://1906lodge.com or the Hillcrest House Bed and Breakfast http://hillcresthouse.net – very different vibes and I think we will try both at different times, but I settled on the 1906 Lodge for this trip. The complementary mimosas, hot breakfast, and happy hour sold me…also we are familiar with Coronado – in fact this Inn is about a block from the house we stayed in. I’ll update after our stay, but I am excited to check it out.
Now I need to figure out if we are making a stop on the way there or back…there isn’t much along 5, so it isn’t all that interesting.

ANYWAY, this is how my brain works when I plan a trip…..

I am still trying to figure out our possible trip to South Carolina to visit mom – only put a few hours into that one so far lol
